<image:caption>Andre Barker Jr. (b.1997) is a figurative painter from Detroit, Michigan, and an MFA candidate at Columbia College Chicago ‘24. He has received the Dwight W. Follett Continuing Graduate Student Fellowship, a Diversity and Inclusion Award, and the Albert P. Weisman Award from Columbia College. He has shown his work at the 3 Square Art Gallery in Fort Collins, CO; The Buckham Gallery in Flint, MI; The KCAD Alluvium Gallery in Grand Rapids, MI; The Detroit Historical Museum in Detroit, MI; and will soon have a solo show at M Contemporary Art in Ferndale, MI in 2024. Artist Statement: I am an Afro-Surrealist who uses figurative painting to visually represent the poetic weirdness of the Black experience in the United States by telling Black stories—my story. I do this by featuring Black and Brown people in compositions that are inspired by iconic works that we have historically been excluded from. I capture feelings of alienation and frustration in my paintings using color, expression, and dramatic lighting to continue the conversation about the change our society desperately needs.</image:caption>

By using bright colors and blended forms, they invite viewers into their dreamlike world. Their process is essential to their practice. Leshuk believes that art is a form of meditation for both the artist and viewer, and creates works designed to serve as a focal point to encourage self-reflection. She used to doodle, make origami, and create sculptures from recyclables. As an adult, crocheting has helped her unwind after work and kept her calm in anxious situations. In her free time, she sews, crochets, draws, paints, sculpts, and cooks. She love creating and sharing her knowledge with others. As an artist and art teacher, she can share her passion with the next generation while still creating and keeping up with her art skills as well.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Stephanie (she/her) is always thrilled to share Comfortably Queer with others! A Craft Queer at heart, she really enjoys the creativity and freedom that comes with it. Comfortably Queer provides weird and cozy sensory goods for touch and scent - from soft, crochet wearables and stuffies, to uniquely scented soaps, incense sticks, and roll ons, there’s always something fun to check out. The goal behind Comfortably Queer has been to offer up fun and creative things, sure, but also to serve as a welcoming space. Stephanie spent a long time in the closet, and was always absolutely delighted to see something that even resembled Queer art and representation. If you run into her during any of the various festivals she is participating in this summer, you’ll definitely get that feeling right away! She is debuting a new set up for her tent and can’t wait to welcome you all in.</image:caption>

She grew up believing she had to go to school and make a living with her degree. After attending Loyola University Chicago, she pursued a law degree. A year in, she felt she had a higher calling. She had already competed in gymnastics throughout high school, but was craving something that was more than productivity and perfection. Vy tried aerial hammock for the first time at Chicago Aerial Arts , and she was sold! Not long after, she dropped out of her graduate program to fully dive into circus. She worked closely with her mentor, trained hard, stayed focused, asked lots of questions, and it wasn’t long until creating art with her body became a reality.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Atlas is the tiniest titan you’ve ever seen, and his tale is one for the history books. There once was a drag queen born out of lockdown and a stimulus check, named Glimmer. They tried their best to thrive in the Chicago scene, but they just couldn’t figure themselves out. Something was off, something was missing. One fateful September, in the year 2022, Glimmer was cast in the first show put on by The High Hall (a Chicago-based DIY queer theater). Glimmer gloriously transitioned into Atlas, and Atlas has been with The High Hall ever since. At his core, Atlas is a story-teller. He is a drag king widely influenced by: pop-punk/alt/glam rock/metal frontmen, vampires, bards of dungeons & dragons, cosplay, and the color green. Atlas’ drag is dynamic – he has the ability to provide production value and spectacle, and the ability to deliver a tight lip sync to hit you right in your funny bone, your heartstrings, or in your nightmares. Through his time working with The High Hall, Atlas has been able to hone his craft while learning how to host, produce, and stage manage drag shows. Recently, Atlas stepped into the casting director role at The High Hall. He is incredibly excited to be an advocate for other creatives, and proud of the opportunity for our theater to take care of our community while creating art together.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Imagine being four years old, Too Wong Foo is on TV, and deciding right then and there that you too were going to be a drag queen. Sounds crazy? Fast forward about 20 years. With the help of cheap boxed wine, and a wig you are giving your roommate the best living room concert to Lil’ Kim’s, Hardcore album. Crazy was the last thing on the mind of Logan Zass. Logan was so taken with the magic of drag that she immediately tried to duplicate tricks and looks she had seen at local shows, TV, and YouTube. With determination to get her name out there, she inserted herself in many local drag competitions to gain experience. Winning was never the goal of competing, but networking was. After many lost competitions and many nights hitting the clubs in a look for free, Logan would be cast as a recurring cast member in local drag shows at legendary clubs on top of making guest appearances for many other shows. Her love for female hip-hop, fashion, and iconic pop culture TV moments helped her carve her craft. Logan’s drag is hyper-feminine, always polished, bold, and zany but still sexy with a rough edge. Now the self-proclaimed “Pint-sized Pimpin’ Party Princess of Chicago” is bringing the queer party to Subterranean showcasing performances from drag entertainers of every genre. Draggy Tingz is the first and third Sunday of every month, produced and hosted by Logan herself.</image:caption>
